Town of Markham eating establishments receive prestigious Eat Smart! Award

NEWMARKET � The Regional Municipality of York Community and Health Services department is pleased to announce 27 food establishments in the Town of Markham have earned a 2008 Eat Smart! Award.

This prestigious award recognizes the efforts of local food premises in meeting exceptional standards set in the areas of food safety, healthy food choices and smoke-free dining.

The Town of Markham�s Eat Smart! Award Ceremony will take place at a special recognition event on Monday, May 12th.

The York Region Community and Health Services department participates in the Eat Smart! provincial program in partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario and the Canadian Cancer Society. Awards are granted on an annual basis.

This year, individual award ceremonies will be held in each of the nine local municipalities where the recognized food establishments reside.
