The Regional Municipality of York to officially open new Schomberg Water

 

NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York will celebrate the official opening of our newest water treatment plant with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the Schomberg Water Treatment Plant.  The plant is the only one of its kind in York Region to use a unique combination of technologies to ensure the highest level of treatment.

• Construction of the plant began in June 2008 and was completed May 2010
• The exterior of the Schomberg Water Treatment Plant was designed to mesh with the community of Schomberg's historic look and character
• The increase in size of the building has enabled new technology to be incorporated, increasing capacity of the system
• The increase in capacity will service the growing population of Schomberg
• The plant uses a unique combination of methane strippers, Macrolite ceramic filters and UV disinfection, which enables York Region operators to correct any issues associated with high ammonia, methane, iron and manganese in the water
• The treatment system used at the new plant enables York Region operators to provide the community with a municipal water supply that meets Ontario's stringent standards
