York Regional Council approves $1.2 billion in capital projects for the year 2012

 

NEWMARKET - York Regional Council today approved $1.2 billion gross capital expenditures for 2012 as part of the 2012 Business Plan and Budget. Highlights of new investment in capital projects include:

 

$332.2 million for Rapid Transit, including:
• Construction of the Spadina Subway Extension into York Region
• Construction of Bus Rapid Transit facilities and terminals
• Preliminary engineering for Yonge Subway Extension

 

$297.0 million for Wastewater, including:
• Construction of York Durham Sewage System (YDSS) Southeast Collector
• Duffin Creek Wastewater Pollution Control Plant Stage 1 & 2 upgrades and Stage 3 expansion
• Keswick Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) Expansion

 

$200.0 million for Water, including:
• Construction of Peel Water Supply cost shared works
• Construction of Kennedy Watermain from Milliken Reservoir to Major Mackenzie
• Construction of Toronto Water Supply cost shared works

 

$132.9 million for Regional Roads, including: 
• Widening of Stouffville Road from Highway 404 to McCowan Road in the Town of Markham
• Widening of Bloomington Road from Bathurst Street to Highway 404 in the Town of Richmond Hill and the Town of Aurora
• Intersection improvement at 16th Avenue and Reesor Road in the Town of Markham

 

$40.1 million for Housing Services, including:
• Construction of 140 affordable housing units in Town of Richmond Hill
• Construction of 97 affordable housing units in Town of Georgina
• Redevelopment of an existing Housing York Inc site in City of Vaughan

 

$40.0 million for Waste Management, including:
• Construction of an Energy From Waste facility in Durham Region
• Upgrade of Community Environmental Centre in Town of Geogina
• Design specifications for a Source Separated Organics Facility in Dufferin County
