“Exercise Backup” to test Region’s response to severe storm and loss of power scenario
NEWMARKET - The Regional Municipality of York will hold its annual emergency exercise on Monday, June 4, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Dubbed “Exercise Backup”, the mock scenario involves severe summer weather causing flooding and property damage throughout several York Region municipalities and causing a prolonged power outage at the York Region Administrative Centre.
York Region will open its Regional Emergency Operations Centre (REOC) at its alternate location at the York Region Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Headquarters.
The annual exercise tests York Region’s response to different types of emergencies and fulfils provincial legislative requirements.
The exercise will involve a Simulation Cell (Sim-cell) with more than 100 situations communicated to the REOC for added realism.
