The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:10 p.m. on March 24, 2004.

1  UPADTE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community Services and Housing Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action:

 

PRESENTATION

 

1.  The presentation to Accessibility Advisory Committee Past Chair Diane Humeniuk was deferred to the May 26, 2004 Committee meeting due to illness.

 

ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION

2. Memo from Kees Schipper, Commissioner of Transportation and Works dated March 4, 2004 regarding Pedestrian Accessibility at Traffic Control Signals

 

Committee requested that they be provided with a list of the locations of the Audible Pedestrian and Pedestrian Countdown Signals.

 

Memo was received together with the presentation from Lizuarte Simas, Supervisor of Traffic Controls.

 

3. Memo from Joann Simmons, Commissioner of Community Services and Housing regarding Options for Working with local Accessibility Advisory Committees (Distributed at the meeting)

 

Committee received the memo and endorsed the four options for working with local Accessibility Advisory Committees, as outlined.

 

4.  Update from Joann Simmons regarding Provincial Consultations on the Ontarians with  Disabilities Act, 2001 held on March 23, 2004.

 

Regional Chair Fisch provided information regarding his participation at a by-invitation consultation with the Province regarding the Ontarians with Disabilities Act (ODA).

 

A copy of the March 10, 2004 Report of the Commissioner of Community Services and Housing regarding the Ontarians with Disabilities Act was distributed.

 

Commissioner Simmons provided information regarding Regional staff members' participation at the ODA public consultation sessions held on March 23, 2004.

 

Regional Councillor Wheeler requested that, pending Council approval of the report, a copy be forwarded to the Provincial Advisory Committee on the Development of an Accessibility Advisory Committee Handbook.

 

Committee received the presentations and endorsed the recommendations in the March 10, 2004 Report of the Commissioner of Community Services & Housing regarding the Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

5.  Commissioner Simmons announced that Joy Hulton, a member of the ODA Staff Committee has been appointed Regional Solicitor.

 

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
