The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:13 p.m. on May 26, 2004.

1  UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community Services and Housing Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action:

 

 

PRESENTATION

1. Chair W. Morley, assisted by Regional Chair B. Fisch and Commissioner of Community Services and Housing, Joann Simmons presented a certificate and gift to Accessibility Advisory Committee Past Chair Diane Humeniuk in recognition of her contribution to the Committee and her commitment to the residents of York Region. 

 

DEPUTATION

2. Marlane Lepine, Chair, Town of Richmond Hill Accessibility Advisory Committee advised that her specific concerns had been addressed with Regional staff and stated that the Transit system has shown improvement in the last year. Received

3. Letter from Chris Somerville, Clerk, Township of King dated March 23, 2004 regarding 'Provincial Consultation on the 'Ontarians with Disabilities Act' support of the Region of York recommendations. Received

 

4. Memo from Joann Simmons, Commissioner of Community Services and Housing dated May 12, 2004 regarding 'Location lists of Pedestrian Countdown Signals and Audible Pedestrian Signals'.

 

Committee received the May 12, 2004 Memo and requested that this issue be added to the next Accessibility Advisory Committee Agenda to receive Committee's input on the effectiveness of these signals.

 

5. E-mail from Janice Bondi, Committee Coordinator, Town of Newmarket dated May 25, 2004 regarding correspondence to Minister of Citizenship and Immigration regarding implementation of the ODA. Received

 

6. E-mail from Robert Hunn, Committee Member, York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee dated May 24, 2004 regarding York Region Transit/Mobility Plus. Received

 

7. Brenda McGowan, Tourism Promotion Coordinator, Economic Development Branch, Planning and Economic Development Department made a presentation regarding the Region's initiatives to address accessibility issues relating to tourism in the Region. Received

 

8. Brian Drew, Manager of Specialized Services, York Region Transit Mobility Plus presented the 2003 Customer Satisfaction Survey Results. Received

 

Don Gordon, General Manager, York Region Transit made presentations regarding the Mobility Plus Eligibility and Application Process and the Mobility Plus Service Implementation Strategy. Received

 

9. A hand out was provided to Committee from the Community Services and Housing Department regarding 'ODA Implementation Update Report'. Commissioner Simmons advised that a report on the implementation will be going forward to the June 2, 2004 meeting of the Community Services and Housing Committee.

 

OTHER BUSINESS

10. Commissioner Simmons advised that Committee member Sharon Abrahams was recently presented an award at the "In Celebration of Women" event.

 

The Accessibility Advisory Committee adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
