The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:05 p.m. on November 26, 2008. 1 UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community Services and Housing Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action: [The following links open .pdf files of the Presentations and supporting documents] PRESENTATIONS 1. Piragal Thiru, Planner – Accessible Services, York Region Transit, Transportation Services Department, regarding 'Draft 2009 Transportation Services Accessibility Plan'. Received. The Committee requested further information from the Roads Branch regarding the process for auditing pedestrian crossings, and requested that Forestry staff report back to this committee with options for fully accessible trails in naturally forested settings and include examples from other jurisdictions on the status of their accessible trails. 2. Darryl Blakeley, Project Manager, Customer Support, Information Technology Services, Finance Department, regarding 'Draft 2009 Finance Accessibility Plan'. Received. The Committee requested that the Financial Services Branch report back to this committee with a list of tools and/or services that the Region currently provides to support persons with disabilities (i.e., reduced transit passes), and examples of what other jurisdictions offer to support and assist persons with disabilities. 3. Dawn Seetaram, Planner, Human Services Planning, Planning and Development Services Department, regarding 'Draft 2009 Planning and Development Services Accessibility Plan'. Received. 4. Deputy Chief Eric Jolliffe, York Regional Police, regarding 'Draft 2009 York Regional Police Accessibility Plan'. Received. Staff were requested to circulate information on the Reverse 911 system to all Committee members, who will forward this information on through their networks. 5. Sylvia Patterson, General Manager, Housing & Long-Term Care, Community and Health Services Department, regarding 'Draft 2009 Community and Health Services Accessibility Plan'. Received. Property Services staff were requested to report back regarding the status of accessible washrooms and automatic doors at the Newmarket Tannery facility, as referenced in the 'Accessibility Audit of Prioritized Facilities for York Region' from September, 2005. Cordelia Abankwa-Harris, Managing Director, Strategic Service Integration and Policy, Community and Health Services Department forwarding a copy of a letter dated October 23, 2008 from Loretta Chandler, Manager, York Region Emergency Management to Cindy Gorlewski, Chair, Accessibility Advisory Committee, Town of The Committee requested that staff from the Emergency Management Branch be invited to attend a meeting of the AAC in early 2009 to provide an update on the Region's policies, procedures and communication strategies for dealing with the needs of persons with disabilities in emergency situations, and that staff be requested to attend the December 3, 2008 Emergency Management of Ontario's Persons with Disabilities Forum on Emergency Preparedness and report back to this Committee.
