1. Anita Moore, Town Clerk, Town of Newmarket, dated October 30, 2008, regarding 'Rail Pedestrian Crossing – Train Whistle Mitigation and Safety'.  Received.

 

2. P.M. Madill, Regional Clerk, Regional Municipality of Durham, dated October 30, 2008, regarding 'Engineering Services for the Southeast Collector Trunk Sewer Individual Environmental Assessment'.  Received and that the Regional Chair and Regional Clerk be authorized to execute the agreement, subject to review by Legal Services.

 

3. Jeffrey A. Abrams, City Clerk, City of Vaughan, dated November 14, 2008, regarding 'Request for Installation of Traffic Signals, Langstaff Road and Balding Boulevard'.  Received and referred to staff for a future report.

 

4. Jeffrey A. Abrams, City Clerk, City of Vaughan, dated November 14, 2008, regarding 'Enforcing Our By-law Regarding Illegally Placed Signs on Regional Roads'.  Received and referred to staff for a future report.

 

5. Jeffrey A. Abrams, City Clerk, City of Vaughan, dated November 14, 2008, regarding 'Drinking Water Quality Management System and Top Management Review'.  Received and referred to staff.

 

6. Chris Somerville, Township Clerk, Township of King, dated November 18, 2008, regarding 'Uploading of 15th & 18th Sideroads between Bathurst Street and Dufferin Street, and King City By-pass (Mid-York East/West Transportation Issues)'.  Received and referred to staff for a future report.

 

7. David M. Beattie, Project Manager, AECOM, dated November 26, 2008, regarding 'Notice of Submission of Environmental Assessment Report Southeast Collector Trunk Sewer Individual Environmental Assessment'.  Received.

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

8. Environmental Services staff were requested to provide a future report to the Transportation and Works Committee to address the following:

 

a) confirm that the proposed water rate includes reserve funds for water and sewer and confirm the amounts;

b) onfirm the rates being paid to the Region of Peel and the City of Toronto for water, and the cost of groundwater supply in York Region;

c) confirm the costs for disposal of sewage being charged by Durham Region and Peel Region, and the cost of local sewage disposal;

d) provide an estimate of water saved through conservation programs.

 

9. Mark Stabb, on behalf of the Nature Conservancy of Canada, presented a print of the Happy Valley Forest to Regional Chair Fisch in recognition of the Region's ongoing support of the Nature Conservancy of Canada, and to Ian Buchanan in recognition of the Natural Heritage and Forestry staff's support and commitment to nature conservancy.

 

 

PRIVATE SESSION

 

The Committee resolved into private session at 11:17 a.m. to consider the following:

 

1. Private Attachments to Item D14 Commissioner of Corporate Services (Acquisition of Land, Bathurst Street Sanitary Sewer, Project 7710, City of Vaughan) – Acquisition of Property.

 

2. Private Report of the Regional Solicitor – Application for Approval Under the 1985 Great Lakes Charter – Solicitor and Client Privilege.

 

The Committee resumed in public session at 11:34 a.m. with no report out.  Its recommendation on Item No. 2 will be forwarded to Council for consideration at its December 18, 2008 Private Session.

 

Following Private Session, the Transportation and Works Committee approved Recommendation No. 3 as set out in Clause 4 (Application Under the Great Lakes Charter) of this report.

 

 

 

The Transportation and Works Committee adjourned at 11:35 a.m.
