The Transportation and Works Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Transportation and Works Committee with the following action:

1. Mario Racco, member St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and President of the Brownridge Ratepayers Association, regarding 'Signs for St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church'.  Received and referred to staff to work with the proponent to locate signage in the most appropriate locations.

9. Regional Councillor Jack Heath forwarding an e-mail from Kenneth Kanhai, resident Town of Markham, dated July 10, 2008, regarding 'Dangerous Stretch of 14th Avenue'.  Received and referred to staff.

 

10. Blair Seeley, President, Markham Fair, dated July 23, 2008, regarding 'Traffic Calming Measures on McCowan Road in vicinity of Markham Fair Grounds during the Annual Markham Fair'.  Received and referred to staff to work with Markham Fair representatives regarding signage and/or a temporary road closure for the Fair.

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

11. Staff informed the Transportation and Works Committee that a report will be coming forward in the Fall outlining a new non-retailer specific, Region-wide rebate program for water efficient toilets, for introduction in 2009.

 

12. The Transportation and Works Committee discussed the emerging issue of banning plastic water bottles in Regional facilities.  Regional Chair Fisch agreed to raise this issue at the Solid Waste Management, the Health and EMS and the Finance and Administrative Committees to request follow-up reports. 

 

13. The Transportation and Works Committee requested a staff report in the Fall on 2008 capital projects that will not be completed by year end and will therefore be deferred to 2009.
