Seetaram The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:00 p.m. on April 29, 2009. 1 UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community Services and Housing Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action: PRESENTATIONS [The following links open .pdf files of the Presentations] 1. Loretta Chandler, Manager, Emergency Management and Morris Faccin, Coordinator, Training, Exercises and Public Education, Emergency Management, Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, regarding 'York Region Emergency Management'. Received. The Committee requested that staff of the Emergency Management Branch of the Office of the CAO prepare a report for review at the September 23, 2009 AAC Committee on the opportunity for York Region to develop a comprehensive emergency preparedness plan for persons with disabilities based on best practices in other jurisdictions, and considering communications, identification processes, emergency planning exercises, etc. 2. Karen Antonio-Hadcock, Senior Planner, Long Range and Strategic Planning, Planning and Development Services, regarding 'Draft Criteria for Building New Communities in York Region'. Received. Received. It was noted that 4. Raymond Callery, President, AMCTO, April 24, 2009 to the Honourable Madeleine Meilleur, Minister of Community & Social Services, regarding 'Proposed Employment Accessibility Standard'. Received. 5. Denis Kelly, Regional Clerk, April 24, 2009, regarding Regional Council's decision to recognize May 24 – May 30, 2009 as National Access Awareness Week. Received. OTHER BUSINESS 1. Cordelia Abankwa-Harris, Managing Director, Strategic Service Integration and Policy, Community and Health Services, regarding brief update on the 'Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act 2005'. Received. 2. Lois Davies, Program Manager, AODA/ODA, Community and Health Services, regarding brief update on the 'AMCTO Accessibility Forum March 24, 2009'. Received. 3. Aisha Saintiche, Senior Program and Compliance Analyst, Community and Health Services, report back concerning 'Scugog Accessibility Advisory Committee Workshop'. Received. 4. The Committee congratulated Kirsten Hill, who received the 2009 Ontario Volunteer Service Award from the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration in recognition of her five years of service with the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee. 5. The final York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee brochure was circulated. The Committee congratulated staff on the final version. 6. Margaret Gaukel invited members to participate in the Mount Albert Sports Day and Fair on June 5, 6 and 7, 2009. The local AAC Committee will be sponsoring a wheelchair-rally at the event and are looking for teams. Further information will be circulated. 7. The Committee congratulated Trish Robichaud who will be the keynote speaker at the Ministry of Government Services 'Accessibility Expo' on May 28, 2009. 8. The Committee was informed that an additional meeting of the YRAAC has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in order to hear the 2010 Departmental Accessibility Plans.
