The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:04 p.m. on November 18, 2009. 1 UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community and Health Services Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action: PRESENTATIONS – DRAFT 2010 DEPARTMENTAL ACCESSIBILITY PLANS [The following links open .pdf files of the Presentations and the accompanying Plans] 1. Office of the Chief Administrative Officer Michelle Herder, Program Manager, Corporate Customer Service Strategy, Office of the Chief Administrative Officer presented the Draft 2010 Accessibility Plan for the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer. Received. Val Sequeira, Manager, Business Information Systems Development, Finance Department presented the Draft 2010 Accessibility Plan for the Finance Department. Received. The Committee requested that staff investigate the process of allowing meeting participation by video conferencing. Ruth Houghton, AODA Coordinator, York Regional Police presented the Draft 2010 Accessibility Plan for York Regional Police. Received. The Committee requested further information on the development of 4. Planning and Development Services John Waller, Director, The Committee suggested that staff investigate the use of universal design practices to ensure inclusion of accessibility features in social housing, and also consider focusing on accessibility within the economic development and tourism portfolio. OTHER BUSINESS 1. Margaret Gaukel, York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee member, provided a report back on the Accessible Trail Tour which took place on October 2, 2009. The Committee commended the Forestry staff for their openness to suggestions for trail accessibility and encouraged them to continue to strive for a fully accessible trail within York Region. Received. 2. Lisa Gonsalves, Manager, Program Development and Delivery, Community and Health Services Department, provided an update on the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 AODA. Received. 3. The Committee was informed of the resignation of Beverley Hall from the Accessibility Advisory Committee. The Committee requested that a letter of thanks be sent on behalf of the Accessibility Advisory Committee. 4. Joann Simmons, Commissioner of Community and Health Services, was unable to attend today's meeting. There will be a retirement celebration for Commissioner Simmons in the New Year which the Committee members are welcome to attend. Once available, details on the celebration will be forwarded to the AAC members. 5. Trish Robichaud raised an individual labour relations issue for which it was determined this Committee was not the appropriate venue for discussion. A report back from Human Resources was requested concerning the processes in place for York Region employees who are facing difficulties in their employment situation. 6. The next meeting of the Accessibility Advisory Committee at which the Draft 2010 Accessibility Plans for Transportation Services, Environmental Services, Corporate Services and Community and Health Services will be presented, is scheduled for Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. The Accessibility Advisory Committee adjourned at 5:50 p.m. Respectfully submitted, November 18, 2009 V.
