The Accessibility Advisory Committee began its meeting at 4:08 p.m. on November 25, 2009. 1 UPDATE - COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises the Community and Health Services Committee of the following matters having been considered by the Accessibility Advisory Committee with the following action: PRESENTATIONS – DRAFT 2010 DEPARTMENTAL ACCESSIBILITY PLANS [The following links open .pdf files of the Presentations and the accompanying Plans] 1. Community and Health Services Sylvia Patterson, General Manager, Housing and Long Term Care, presented the Draft 2010 Accessibility Plan for the Community and Health Services Department. Received. Piragal Thiru, Planner- Accessible Services, York Region Transit and Irene McNeil, Director, Strategic Policy and Business Planning presented the Draft 2010 Accessibility Plan for the Transportation Services Department. Received. The Committee requested that the Chair of AAC send a letter to Metrolinx encouraging them to address the issue of cross-border travel for those with accessibility issues. Beverley Cassidy-Moffatt, Manager, Human Resouces Consulting presented an overview of Human Resource policies relating to the recruitment process, and Barry Crowe, Director Property Services presented the Draft 2010 Accessibility Plan for the Corporate Services Department. Received. The Committee suggested that the mandate of the Corporate Services Department be enhanced to better reflect what the Region is currently doing, i.e., adding after …work environment, 'which includes the physical built form and all forms of audio, electronic, print signage and other forms of communication… '. Lucas Cugalj, Director, Strategy and Business Planning presented the Draft 2010 Accessibility Plan for the Environmental Services Department. Received. The Committee suggested that staff consider a more co-ordinated marketing approach to promote the Region's accessibility initiatives and accomplishments over the last three years and increase exposure for the Region. The Committee also suggested that a letter of commendation be sent from the AAC to the Region in recognition of Council's support and regional staffs' achievements in the area of accessibility. Copy of letter from Denis Kelly, Regional Clerk, to Regional Councillor Vito Spatafora, Chair, York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee, dated November 19, 2009 forwarding a report from the Transportation Services Committee entitled 'Travel Training Pilot Program Results'. Received. 2. Copy of letter from Denis Kelly, Regional Clerk, to Regional Councillor Vito Spatafora, Chair, York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee dated November 19, 2009 forwarding a report from the Community and Health Services Committee entitled 'Accessible Customer Service Policy'. Received. 3. The Committee recognized and made a presentation to Commissioner Simmons in gratitude for her leadership and support and wished her well in her upcoming retirement. 4. Lisa Gonsavles informed the Committee of the process for reporting on the Region's compliance with the Accessibility Standards for Customer Service Regulation. A report will be drafted internally for review by the AODA sub-committee in mid-February. This report will then be submitted to the AAC in late February, who will report to Regional Council. The deadline for reporting to the Province is March 31, 2010. 5. The next meeting of the Accessibility Advisory Committee is scheduled for Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. The Accessibility Advisory Committee adjourned at 6:06 p.m. Respectfully submitted, November 25, 2009 V.
