The Community and Health Services Committee advises Council of the following matters having been considered by the Community and Health Services Committee with the following action:

 

 

DEPUTATION

 

(Regional Council at its meeting on October 22, 2009 amended the following deputation as follows:

           
That the deputation be received and that Regional Council support the request of the York Region Children's Aid Society and request that the Regional Chair send a letter of support on behalf of Regional Council.)

 

1. Patrick Lake, Executive Director and M.J. Perry, Vice-President, Board of Directors, York Region Children's Aid Society regarding Ministry of Children and Youth Services New Funding Formula. Received with request that the Regional Chair send a letter of support to the Children's Aid Society to assist them in their negotiations with the Province regarding funding.

 

 

COMMUNICATIONS

1. Mollie Coles Tonn, Volunteer Outreach, Aids Committee of York Region regarding the Community Forum (Speaking Out:  Health, Housing, Stigma and HIV/AIDS). Received.

           

2. Hon. David Caplan, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, September 4, 2009, regarding funding for the provision of mandatory and related public health programs in York Region. Received.

           

3. Hon. Deb Matthews, Minister of Children and Youth Services, September 14, 2009, regarding Best Start Child Care Funding. Received.

           

4. Hon. David Caplan, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, September 18, 2009, regarding funding for Global Positioning System (GPS) / Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL) hardware in Emergency Medical Services vehicles. Received.

 

5. Pat M. Madill, Regional Clerk, Regional Municipality of Durham, September 25, 2009, resolution regarding health and social services funding in the Greater Toronto Area/905. Received.

 

6. Jeff Payne, Deputy Clerk and Acting Director of Clerk's, Region of Peel, September 28, 2009, regarding Nomination for Social Housing Services Corporation Board of Directors. Receive and endorse the nomination of Adelina Urbanski, Commissioner, Halton Social and Community Services to serve on the Social Housing Services Corporation Board of Directors.

 

7. Memorandum from Joann Simmons, Commissioner of Community and Health Services, October 14, 2009 regarding Service Indicators for Social Assistance and Housing. Received.

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

1. Dr. K. Kurji, Medical Officer of Health, provided a verbal update on the status of the seasonal flu vaccine program and the status of the H1N1 response.

 

2. J. Simmons, Commissioner of Community and Health Services, provided information regarding the recent release of 'Policy on Human Rights and Rental Housing' from the Ontario Human Rights Commission.

 

3. J. Simmons, Commissioner of Community and Health Services, advised Committee of proposed draft Regulations from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care respecting long term care. The Regional Chair was requested to send a letter to the Minister to support the position of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario regarding these proposed regulations.

 

 

PRIVATE SESSION

 

The Committee resolved into private session at 3:37 p.m. to consider the following:

 

1. Private Attachment to Item D9 - Commissioner of Community and Health Services (Community Development Investment Fund Strategy – Request for Approval of Recommended 2010 One-Year Projects) - Security of Municipal Property.

 

2. Private Report of the Commissioner of Community and Health Services - York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee - Personal matters about identifiable individuals.

 

The Committee resumed in public session at 3:52 p.m. with no report out. The Committee's recommendations on the above matters will be forwarded to Council for consideration at its October 22, 2009 Private Session.

 

 

The Community and Health Services Committee adjourned at 3:53 p.m.
