Waste Diversion in the Local Municipalities Brian Jones, Director of Public Works Services, Town of The following Members of the Inter Municipal Waste Group presented a review of their local municipality's waste diversion activities: Amanda Newman, Waste Recycling Assistant, Town of Aurora; Greta Zinck, Waste Disposal Inspector,Town of Georgina; Peter Loukes, Director, Operations, Town of Markham; Caroline Kirkpatrick, Manager, Solid Waste Program, City of Vaughan; and Jeff Meggitt, Manager, Waste Management, Town of Richmond Hill. Mahoney, Commissioner of Environmental Services, June 1, 2009, regarding Durham/York Joint Waste Management Group Motions from the May 26, 2009 meeting relating to Site Specific Reports and the Draft Individual Environmental Assessment Study. Received. OTHER BUSINESS 5. The Committee was advised that Orgaworld and Universal Resource Recovery, the two contractors providing services to the Region for source separated organics, have received orders from the Ministry of the Environment requiring them to upgrade or amend their odour control facilities. Until these Ministry of Environment orders are complied with, their processing capacity is limited and a portion of the Region's source separated organics is being sent to landfill and to a Covanta EFW facility. The processing capacity at these two facilities is expected to increase once the required upgrades are completed, which should be in the next two weeks. Received. PRIVATE SESSION The Committee resolved into private session at 11:29 a.m. to consider the following: 6. Private Report of the Commissioner of Environmental Services and the Regional Solicitor, dated May 28, 2009 regarding 'Green Lane Landfill: Disposal Agreement between the Region and the City of Toronto' – Solicitor-Client. The Committee resumed in public session at 11:31 a.m. with no report out. The Committee's recommendation on the above matter will be forwarded to Council for consideration at its June 25, 2009 Private Session.
