Accessibility Plan Covers

The Region's fifth annual Accessibility Plan is a comprehensive plan of actions that York Region will take to identify, remove, and prevent the barriers that present everyday challenges for people with disabilities. It addresses all aspects of regional government including our programs and services, policies and procedures, regional bylaws, and all our facilities.

It is a plan that builds on our growing experience in accessibility planning and moves us toward our goal of becoming a strong example to other communities, making real and effective changes that open doors of opportunity to everyone in our region.

York Region is proud of the progress it has made to date to make our region more inviting and more inclusive of people with disabilities – for those who live here, and for thousands of others who visit each and every day to work, play, learn, and live life to the fullest.

We still, however, have more to do.

While we celebrate our achievements, we must also continue to work together within our departments, across all our agencies and with stakeholders and the people of York Region, to demonstrate leadership and innovation in accessibility.

We will continue to explore barriers and implement accessibility solutions to create equal opportunity and greater independence for all people with disabilities.

Questions or comments about York Region's 2008 Accessibility Plan are welcome. To provide comments, please refer to page 8 of this document.
