York Region's 2008 Accessibility Plan Summary
Executive Summary

Highlights of York Region's 2008 Accessibility Plan
York Region is dedicated to creating vibrant, safe, welcoming, and accessible communities where all of our citizens – regardless of their age or ability – are able to participate and enjoy all the amenities and services the Region offers.

Our continual efforts to achieve accessibility for our citizens with disabilities has a great influence on meeting those goals.

Opening Doors: York Region's 2008 Accessibility Plan builds on the significant progress we've made in the past four years. Like the Region's previous four annual accessibility plans, the 2008 Plan describes how the Region's various departments continue to work together to prevent, identify, and remove barriers that impact on the lives of people with disabilities.

The following summary highlights the accomplishments of 2007 and outlines how York Region plans to move forward in 2008 to make our region a leader in accessibility.

As with our previous four plans, the initiatives are grouped into the five themes that people with different types of disabilities living in our communities have said impact their lives.
