York Region's 2007 Accessibility Plan Summary

In 2026, York Region residents will live, work, play and learn in healthy, accessible and safe neighbourhoods that are vibrant, exciting and people-friendly. Residents will continue to enjoy the high quality of life that attracted them to York and will have a sense of belonging and commitment to their communities.

Vision 2026
Creating Strong Caring
Safe Communities

York Region is committed to creating healthy, accessible, safe communities where all our citizens - regardless of age or ability - are able to participate and lead full lives. By identifying and breaking down barriers for people with disabilities, it is easier for everyone to live, work, play and learn in York Region.

The main goal of our efforts to identify and remove barriers is to move further towards accessibility by opening doors that have been closed for many people in our communities and enrich the lives of people with disabilities. This, in turn, will make York Region a warmer, richer, more interesting place to live.

The following pages provide a brief summary of our achievements in 2006 as well as our 2007 plans to continue to identify and remove barriers.
Once again, our accessibility initiatives are organized into five themes that people in our communities with disabilities have told us have the greatest impact on their lives.
