Your family may not be together when disaster strikes, so plan how you will contact one another.
Consider a plan where each family member calls or emails the same friend or relative in the event of an emergency. It may be easier to make a long-distance phone call than to call across town, so designate both a local and an out-of-town contact so that separated family members can communicate with each other. Be sure each person has coins or a prepaid phone card to call the emergency contact in their Go-Bag.
Complete a contact information sheet for each family member. Have each member keep this information handy in their wallet, purse, backpack, etc. You may want to send a copy to school with each child to keep on file. A copy should also be included in your family's Emergency Supplies Kit and in each Go-Bag.
