Emerald Ash Borer in York Region
The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an invasive insect that kills ash trees within one to three years of infestation.
Emerald Ash Borer facts:
- Tens of millions of ash trees have been killed by the EAB in Canada and the eastern United States
- Poses no risk to human health
- Insecticide treatments are available to protect individual trees
- After being sighted in York Region in 2008, it can now be found throughout the Region and much of Southern Ontario
- Focus is on minimizing tree canopy loss, protecting resident safety, and slowing the spread of the insect
