    Emerald Ash Borer in York Region

    Emerald Ash Borer info night buttonThe Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an invasive insect that kills ash trees within one to three years of infestation.

    Emerald Ash Borer facts:

    • Tens of millions of ash trees have been killed by the EAB in Canada and the eastern United States
    • Poses no risk to human health
    • Insecticide treatments are available to protect individual trees
    • After being sighted in York Region in 2008, it can now be found throughout the Region and much of Southern Ontario
    • Focus is on minimizing tree canopy loss, protecting resident safety, and slowing the spread of the insect
