Underground services are a critical part of York Region operations.
Damage caused by improper excavation can cause loss of essential services to residents and businesses in the Region. The excavator is required under the Ontario Health and Safety Act (OHSA) O.Reg 213/91, S.228 to contact the owner of the service and request to locate and mark the service prior starting any excavation. This page is a resource to aid excavators in the Locate Request process and excavation procedures.

York Region is now a member of Ontario One Call. Ontario One Call is a 24 hour a day Call Centre which provides a free service to excavators requesting Locates in the Province of Ontario. Effective July 9, 2012, all emergency and non-emergency requests must be directed to Ontario One Call.

A minimum of 10 business days is required to process a York Region water or wastewater Locate Request for planned work. Excavators are requested to provide additional lead-time where possible. Emergency requests may only be placed via phone. For more information on Ontario One Call services please visit their website.

Standard and Emergency Locates

Visit Ontario One Call online and complete their form to request a Locate or call them at 1-800-400-2255. Ontario One Call is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Water and Wastewater locates referred to on this page pertain to York Region infrastructure only. It is the responsibility of the excavator to contact local municipalities and other utility operators to locate their services. Emergency Locates. Call Ontario One Call 1-800-400-2255. All emergency requests must go through Ontario One Call. An emergency is when loss of essential services by a utility requires an immediate response to prevent or mitigate a public health or safety hazard.
