York Region Greening Strategy

Greening Strategy

Information Management

The importance of maintaining a current Geographic Information System (GIS) or digital environmental databases is important in conserving natural features. Ensuring that information is available to stakeholders and the public serves to promote and educate about natural heritage systems and what the Region is doing to protect and enhance it.

Achievements and ongoing activities

  • York Region Significant Woodlands Study  – defines and identifies important woodlands across York Region.
  • Enhanced Natural Feature Inventory of wetlands and streams.
  • Updating the Region's website to improve communication and provide more user friendly access to the Region's environmental initiatives.
