York Region is committed to preserving its natural heritage, including farmlands, wetlands, kettle lakes, the Oak Ridges Moraine and over 2,070 hectares of Regional forest.
To assist in this preservation, the Region developed a comprehensive Greening Strategy. The Greening Strategy helps identify and protect vulnerable green spaces, and calls for increased tree planting, development that includes the protection of natural features and a gradual increase in forest coverage to 25 per cent from its existing 18 per cent.
