Legal services provides legal advice and representation to the Regional Corporation, its Council and Committees, the Regional Chair, all Regional departments, the Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board, the York Regional Police, and Housing York Inc.

Legal services provided include: preparation of contracts, agreements, reports and by-laws; representation of Regional interests before all levels of Courts and administrative tribunals; and providing legal opinions and advice. Legal Services is also responsible for initiating the development of a Municipal Code to consolidate all of the Region's by-laws for the public and staff to reference; streamlining new business processes to provide effective, timely, and responsive customer service; and providing informative and timely advice on new legislation and regulations.

It should be noted that Legal Services is not able to provide legal services to the public.

The service is designed to provide callers with up to a 30 minute consultation either by phone or in person. This service in not meant to provide legal advise or second opinions. Any fees should be discussed with the lawyer prior to any work being done. A referral may be provided by calling 1-900-565-4577, please note that a $6.00 flat fee will be automatically added to your telephone bill. Callers who are incarcerated, in a shelter, under the age of majority, in domestic abuse crises, or calling with regards to Child Protection issues, can call out toll free Crisis line at 1-800-268-8326.
