Connecting With Your Child

The experiences that children have in the first six years of life can build a strong and healthy foundation for life long learning, behaviour, and health. Parents are the most important people in their child's life. When parents respond to their child in a warm, loving and sensitive manner, and provide consistent, positive expeiences they create feelings of safety, security and love in their child.

When children feel safe, secure and loved, they:

  • Learn faster and have better problem solving skills
  • Have a higher level of self-esteem
  • Are more likely to have positive relationships with other people
  • Are capable of loving other people
  • Are more likely to be independent

Relax, and don't worry about making mistakes. All parents learn by trial and error. Try to respond to your child in a warm, sensitive manner most of the time.

Many new parents find that parenthood is not what they expected. This is a normal feeling.

Parenting can be a challenge. We can help.
