CINOT – Children in Need of Treatment
York Region Community and Health Services offers this dental program for children and youth under 18 years old who need emergency or essential dental care. The program is jointly funded by the Province and York Region, and is managed by Public Health.
Who can use the CINOT Program? A child or youth who has been identified by a Registered Dental Hygienist at a Public Health screening clinic as having an urgent dental condition and:
- The child is under 18 years old
- The family does not have dental insurance
- The cost is difficult for the family to pay
Is all dental care covered? No. CINOT covers only basic treatment services (for example, examinations, x-rays, most fillings and extractions). All dentists receive a list of the services covered by the CINOT program. Some complex services require prior authorization from the health unit before they can be done.
Billing When a dentist accepts a CINOT-covered patient, the dentist cannot bill you for services that are covered by CINOT. If you agree to additional services not covered by CINOT, the dentist will bill you directly.
How often can you use CINOT? CINOT is not an insurance plan and a child must re-qualify for each unrelated urgent dental problem.
Not eligible for CINOT? If a child is not eligible for CINOT because he or she does not have an urgent dental need, the child may still qualify for one of our other dental program services
