Dental Screening

Dental screening is available to all children in York Region from birth up to the age of 18. Children can develop dental problems that parents may not be aware of.

What is dental screening?
Dental screening is a quick visual inspection by a dental hygienist that helps find dental problems and let parents know about them. If families cannot afford dental care for their child, the dental hygienists will tell them about the CINOT program.

Dental screening in schools
Dental screening is provided to children in selected grades in elementary school. Parents are then notified if their child needs dental treatment.

Dental screening at a dental clinic
Parents of pre-schoolers, children or youth who were not screened at school, may request dental screening at one of the York Region Dental Clinics. An appointment is required and can be arranged by calling one of the contact numbers.

Getting the dental care your child needs
Dental staff is legally required to follow up on all urgent dental conditions to make sure a child has received dental care.

If you do not have dental insurance for your child and providing the care is difficult due to the cost, call us to see if you qualify for the CINOT program.
