Each year, a team of York Region health professionals award York Region's top workplace cafeterias for safe and healthy choices and smoke-free environments.

Changes to the Eat Smart! Program in 2013:

Provincial support for the Eat Smart! program ended as of September 30, 2012. Public Health Units were to decide whether to continue or terminate the program at the local level.

York Region Community and Health Services Department will continue to offer the Eat Smart! Workplace Cafeteria Program for the 2013 year with the following changes:

• Nominations for the award will occur on a case-by-case basis by Nutrition Services throughout the year
• The program will be made available to a workplace offering a comprehensive workplace nutrition program who meet specific criteria
• All types of food services available at the workplace (e.g., cafeteria and vending) will be assessed as part of the application process
