Food Safety at Restaurants

Certified Public Health Inspectors conduct unannounced inspections of food establishments and restaurants.

Establishments that are considered high risk are inspected once every four months, moderate risk establishments once every six months and low risk establishments once every 12 months.

YorkSafe provides a Proof of Inspection sign for food establishments and posts a summary of the Public Health Inspector's findings from recent inspections online.

A Reminder for Restaurant Business Owners and Staff

York Region Public Health Inspectors always carry two pieces of identification: York Region employee security card and the provincial offences officer badge.

PROTON Food Handler Certification Course

PROTON participants become certified food handlers when they successfully complete the course. The course is offered in both a self-study and workshop format.
