Programs and Services Offered - Workplace

Healthy Eating: Education and Skill Building

To coincide with raising awareness about nutrition and making changes to the nutrition environment of the workplace, implementing education and skill building activities can also help promote healthy eating among employees.

Consider:
 
  • Implementing a healthy breakfast or lunch challenge
  • Organizing a series of lunch 'n learn sessions
  • Distributing informative nutrition fact sheets to employees
These are just a few of the activities available to you through the York Region Nutrition Works program. A Public Health Nutritionist can meet with you to discuss how to tailor the program to your workplace.

Education and Skill Building Activities:

Workshops (Each workshop is 1 hour and offered by a Public Health Nutritionist. A minimum of 15 participants is required)

 
  • Super Foods for Optimal Health: This workshop explores the top foods for optimal lifetime health, performance and disease prevention
  • Look at the Label: Reading a food label can be challenging but it is an important part of understanding the food you eat. This hands-on workshop will help employees learn how to interpret food labels and make informed healthier food choices
  • Healthy Eating… on the Go: This interactive workshop will provide practical healthy eating guidelines, menu planning and time-saving tips. Learn tasty and easy healthy eating ideas for busy people on the go
  • Healthy Weight: Weighing in on Dieting: Confused about all the popular diets out there? Want to learn whether there is any validity to their claims and theories? This workshop uncovers how body weight affects health and the best strategies for achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight
  • Shift work and Nutrition: Shift workers are more prone to heart and weight problems but proper nutrition can help combat these challenges. This workshop helps employees eat their best while working around the clock
  • What's in Your Child's Lunch Bag?: Through this interactive workshop, employees will discuss the challenges and solutions to preparing healthy school lunches and snacks for children
  • Healthy Eating... on the Move: This workshop explores the best food and beverage choices to have before, during and after your workout
Workshops are only offered to workplaces that are committed to making changes to the nutrition environment.

Challenges:
 
Engage employees in fun and interactive challenges.
 
Nutrition e-bulletin: Bi-weekly messages provide interesting nutrition information, tips and recipes. Online subscription is free
 
Nutrition Fact Sheets: Communicate health messages to your employees with ready-to-use pay cheque inserts. They can also be left in employees' mail boxes, posted on bulletin boards or sent electronically
