YORK REGION STATE OF THE ENVIRONMENT REPORT 2000• The "Our Environment, Our Home" – York Region State of the Environment Report 2000 was adopted by Regional Council in June 2000. • The State of the Environment Report 2000 (SOE), spear-headed by the Health Services Department is the first of its kind to be issued by the Region.
• It provides a baseline account of the current state of York Region's natural resources and identifies 24 recommendations aimed at improving the health of the natural environment.
• The SOE Report was developed through consultation with external stakeholders, area municipalities, conservation authorities, and community agencies; and extensive contributions from the Transportation and Works, Planning and Development Services and Corporate and Legal Services Departments.
• The SOE Report addresses the main compartments of the biophysical environment – Land, Water and Air. Chapters provide an overview of each resource, outline the stresses that impact on the resource and describe its current condition. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation of each resource can be achieved through the use of the "Benchmarks for Health' contained in the Report.
• As part of this initiative, a 100 page Summary Report, a map depicting environmental resources in York Region, and a pamphlet entitled "An A to Z of Environment Actions" were produced and distributed to York Region libraries, schools, and to the general public. In addition, a 350 page Technical Report was produced.
• Copies of the pamphlet and Summary Report are available from the Information Kiosk, Administrative Centre.
• The SOE Report 2000 provides critical information on York Region – Our Environment and Our Home!
