Going Somewhere… Go Active!
According to recent studies, 57 % of Ontario adults are not active enough to achieve health benefits. The most common reason cited for lack of physical activity is lack of time. By using active modes of transportation, we can easily fit physical activity into our daily routines.
Active transportation is any human-powered form of transportation. It can include walking, cycling, wheeling, rollerblading, skateboarding or any other active way to get you where you are going. You can also use active transportation to access public transit systems such as regional buses and the GO Train.
Using active modes of transportation can help you meet Health Canada's recommendations for physical activity; 30 to 60 minutes of moderate physical activity on most days. Active transport also has environmental benefits. After all, active modes of transportation are emission free!
The following resources can be used to find walking clubs in your area, identify appropriate footwear, and provide more information on the benefits of active transportation.
