Reap the rewards of regular physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices. Thirty minutes of walking each day or a swim after supper, a game of basketball with the kids is fun. Physical activity will increase your energy level, self-esteem and reduce your risk for developing chronic illnesses.
Choose something you like to do, or depending on your fitness level start with a lighter activity such as walking. Do shorter lengths of time and increase the time and the intensity as you progress. Canada's Physical Activity Guide gives recommendations of activity levels and great ideas for different types of activities.
Doing activities with others can be motivating and keep you on track. Many communities have walking programs you can join. Remember to set goals, track progress and reward yourself. Also, you can make a difference the next time you need to get somewhere by...going active!
