Instructional Resources for Elementary and Secondary Schools |

| Research has shown that healthy children and youth are better learners. This makes it important to create conditions at school that will lead to good health and good learning. Healthy schools have learning environments where children and youth are supported by their school community to make healthy lifestyle choices. |

For long-lasting benefits, a comprehensive Healthy Schools approach is the most effective method to improve the health and well-being of students and their families. This approach promotes opportunities for students to observe and learn positive health attitudes and behaviours. The four foundations of Healthy Schools are:
- High quality instruction and programs
- Healthy physical environment
- Supportive social environment
- Community partnerships
The York Region Community and Health Services Department is committed to supporting schools to promote, protect and enhance the overall health and learning of children and youth, as well as adults who work in and with schools, and parents/caregivers. We have compiled an inventory of teaching materials, organized by health topic, that support the expectations of the Ontario Curriculum, Health and Physical Education. These resources help build the first foundation of a healthy school, high quality instruction and programs, by supporting students to learn knowledge and skills related to living a healthy life.
Resource lists are available on the following topics:
