2012 Grade One Sun Smart Poster Contest

Win a tree for your school and hats for your class!

Sun Smart Logo

Sun smart behaviour and the use of shade can play an important role in keeping children safe. Protecting children from exposure to the sun may significantly lessen their lifetime risk of developing skin cancer.

The Sun Smart Poster Contest is brought to you by the York Region SunSense Coalition. It is open to all Grade One students in York Region.

To participate, please:

  • Talk about sun safety in class. More information on curriculum support materials, activities and other sun safety resources
  • Print the entry form
  • Have each student use the space provided on page four of the entry form to draw a picture about how they can be sun smart. Be colourful and creative!
  • Engage the parents/guardians and ask them to complete the promise leaf on page three of the entry form
  • Every participating school please select ONE best entry, scan it (page four of the entry form only), and submit it to elementaryhealth@york.ca by March 8th, 2012

Three winners will be announced in April 2012 on the Healthy Schools website, and notified by telephone. The winning art will be used for a Sun Smart poster and bookmark for distribution throughout York Region.

The first place winning school will receive a tree during Sun Awareness Week (June 4 to 10, 2012). Hats will be distributed to all grade one students of the three winning schools.

Good luck with the contest!
