Physical Activity

Ensuring that students are physically active is a shared responsibility. A strong partnership between the home, school and community is essential to providing opportunities for all students to learn about and benefit from being physically active.

The school setting is an environment that all children and youth in the community share.  Schools provide an opportunity to develop an understanding of the importance of physical activity through a commitment to daily vigorous physical activity. Students can learn about positive health behaviour as well as basic skill movements required to participate in physical activity throughout their lives.

The School Team provides consultation and resources related to promoting Physical Activity. Programs which we promote include:

·         Active and Safe Routes to School (International Walk to School Day and IWALK Club)

·         Fitness Ambassador Program

·         Recess Activity Program

·         Turn Off the Screens Week

To obtain a consultation regarding programs and services for your school, please call Health Connection at 1-800-361-5653 and ask to speak with the School Services nurse on call.
