SENTINEL SCHOOL HEALTH MONITORING PROGRAM

The Sentinel School Health Monitoring program is a joint collaboration between the York Region District School Board (YRDSB) and York Region Health Services (YRHS). The purpose of the York Region Sentinel School Health Monitoring Program is to monitor and collect data on student absenteeism due to illness to identify trends or clusters of illness within school communities and York Region. Prior to and during an outbreak, information on student absenteeism is beneficial in targeting prevention strategies and/or deploying treatment resources. Ideally, school absenteeism data can aid in the early detection of outbreaks before they reach their peak level of infectionmore

      OVER-THE-COUNTER (OTC) SURVEILLANCE

The IDSU has partnered with the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) to participate in the Alternative Surveillance Alert Project (ASAP). The objective of this pilot project is to monitor OTC sales trends of gastrointestinal (GI) products and evaluate its utility for detecting unusual changes in community health parameters
