The York Region Community & Health Services, Seniors Program:

·       Promotes a comprehensive healthy aging program

·       Provides awareness of falls incidence

·       Encourages behaviour change for falls prevention

Falls are a major threat to health and independence for seniors in York Region. In Ontario, falls account for 33% of injury-related deaths in people over 65 and 83% of all injury admissions to hospitals.

The good news is most falls are predictable and preventable. By eliminating falls risk factors – hazards in the home, misuse of medications, balance and gait problems, and blood pressure problems – seniors can remain independent and healthy longer.
