The Injury Prevention & Seniors program is committed to promoting optimum health and well-being in York Region by preventing unintentional injuries across the life span. We strive to influence policy, enhance skill development, and provide programs and services addressing healthy aging and falls prevention among seniors, road safety, and childhood and recreational injury.

We accomplish this by:

  • Epidemiological analysis and use of surveillance data to assess local injury-related needs
  • Planning, implementing and evaluating programs and policies addressing the prevention of injuries.
  • Working with community partners, non-governmental organizations and governmental bodies to influence the development and implementation of healthy public policy and to create safe and supportive environments
  • Increasing the capacity of individuals, groups and the community by promoting access to community resources, providing skill-building opportunities and sharing best practices and evidence for the prevention of injury
  • Increasing community awareness by participating in communication campaigns and developing and implementing regional / local communication strategies
