Municipal Water Systems

The Health Services Department monitors the drinking water quality from municipal supplies to ensure that results of water testing complies with the health parameters of the Ontario Drinking Water Standards. Results of water analysis are forwarded to the Health Services Department for review.

The Health Services Department works with the Ministry of Environment, the York Region Transportation and Works Department and the area municipality if there is a concern that the water may present a health hazard.

Municipal Water Works and laboratories are required by law to report adverse drinking water sample results immediately to Health Services. If an adverse sample is found during routine sampling, the Health Services Department can issue a Boil Water Advisory or a Drinking Water Advisory.

Public Health Inspectors are available to answer your concerns about drinking water at the Health Services Health Connection Line at: 1-800-361-5653, TTY 1-866-252-9933
