Sexual Health Program
Healthy Sexuality - It's not just about sex


New! Our Chlamydia campaign is being launched through our Sexual Health Clinics commencing May 1, 2011. Come in to a confidential sexual health clinic for quick and easy testing. 


The Sexual Health Program includes sexual health clinic services, the sexual health phone line and health promotion initiatives to promote sexual health.

Sexual Health Clinics

Sexual Health Sexual health clinics are located throughout York Region and provide the following services in a non-judgmental and confidential environment:

  • Counselling and education on contraceptive options, sexually transmitted infections including HIV, sexual orientation, sexuality and relationships
  • Contraceptives at reduced cost
  • Pregnancy testing, counselling and referral
  • Emergency contraceptives (Plan B)
  • Sexual health examinations
  • Testing, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections
  • HIV testing
  • Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B immunization
  • Free condoms
  • Needle exchange

The following services are available:

  • Rainbow Youth support group for queer or questioning youth: www.rainbowyouthyork.com
  • Positive space training and consultation to community agencies to develop policy inclusive to all sexual orientations and gender identities

School Resources and Curriculum Supports

The following resources can be used for in elementary and secondary schools:

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and Bloodborne Infections (BBIs) Program

Services offered in this program include:

  • Surveillance of STIs and BBIs
  • Counselling of clients who have an STI and/or BBI to ensure treatment, follow-up and appropriate referral. A client can speak with a Public Health Nurse on the telephone and/or make an appointment to meet with a Public Health Nurse (and a clinician) at one of our Sexual Health Clinics.
  • Free STI medications are given to clients and health care providers to treat clients who have tested positive for a reportable STI
  • Partner notification and counselling for people potentially exposed to an STI/BBI
  • Condom and information resource distribution
  • Education and support to health care providers in the community about STIs and BBIs
  • Working in partnership with other community agencies, provincial and federal groups to support the awareness, treatment, prevention of STIs, and sexual health promotion related to STIs and BBIs

ChlamydiaChlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted infection in York Region, especially in 15 to 24 year olds. Up to 70% of people with Chlamydia have NO SYMPTOMS.  Come in to a confidential sexual health clinic for quick and easy testing. York Region Hepatitis C Education Group

This support group meets to provide people living with hepatitis C an opportunity to share current information related to the disease, treatment and healthy lifestyle. Monthly meetings are held in Markham from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month (excluding July and August). This location is wheelchair accessible Facilities are wheelchair accessible
