Prevention of Tobacco Use

Tobacco smoking and exposure to second-hand smoke is related to more than two dozen diseases and conditions, including numerous types of cancers, lung and heart disease.

Smoking tobacco remains the leading cause of preventable death in Canada and has negative health impacts on people of all ages: unborn babies, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and seniors.

Cigarette smoking is responsible for 85% of all new lung cancer cases in Canada.

Smokers have a 70% greater chance of dying from coronary heart disease than non-smokers.
