Did you know?
- Air pollution contributes to an estimated 9,500 premature deaths in Ontario each year.
- It's estimated over 170 million trees are cut down every year for the paper that's used in Canadian offices.
- We would need to plant 30 million trees to absorb the air pollution resulting from GTA drivers idling 5 minutes a day for one year.
- A tap leaking one drop of hot water per second can waste over 181 litres of hot water a week
Guest speakers from the York Region Health Protection Program, Smart Commute and Powerstream presented resources, programs and ideas targeted at using energy more efficiently, saving money and promoting practices that will lead to more environmentally friendly and sustainable outcomes.
Some of the topics of discussion were:
The 20/20 The Way to Clean Air program works with companies in York Region to promote energy conservation among their employees. The program can raise employee morale and helps participants save money both at work, on the road and at home.
Also, traffic congestion results in lower productivity, higher transportation costs and increased emissions. For employees, the stress of the daily commute on congested roads negatively affects the quality of their life and work. Smart Commute can work with your organization to explore different commuter choices like carpooling, transit, teleworking or cycling.
