The Region's centralized traffic control system is innovative because:
- It is one of the few systems in the world that can communicate with several different manufacturer's signal equipment
- It uses both spread spectrum radio and 1xRTT wireless communications to communicate with traffic signals
- School zone flashers are controlled from the CTCS room thought a paging system
