Centralized Traffic Control System(CTCS)

Roads

What is a Centralized Traffic Control System (CTCS)?
A centralized traffic control system allows the equipment controlling the traffic signals to communicate with a central computer, this assists Regional staff in:
  • Recognizing and manage traffic signal equipment problems
    more efficiently
  • Making changes to signal timings
  • Adjusting timing between traffic signals for coordination

These capabilities allows for:

  • Efficient and safe movement of traffic
  • Decrease delays to drivers
  • Minimize the effects on the environment
  • Maximize the capacity of existing roads
The Region's centralized traffic control system is innovative because:
  • It is one of the few systems in the world that can communicate with several different manufacturer's signal equipment
  • It uses both spread spectrum radio and 1xRTT wireless communications to communicate with traffic signals
  • School zone flashers are controlled from the CTCS room thought a paging system
