Light emitting diodes (LED) street lighting is just beginning to break into the market. They provide the required lighting levels of regular incandescent lights, yet there are significant reductions in operational and maintenance expenses.
Along with being less expensive to operate LED street lights are:
- Environmentally friendly
- Reduces air pollution
- CO2 power plant emissions are reduced
- Reductions of approximately 18.3 Billion lbs per year or the equivalent of 2 Million cars per year
As the technology matures and the price to retrofit is more cost effective the Region will at that time start implementing them.
