Family of Transit Services
To encourage people to leave their cars at home, transit must compete with the automobile in terms of speed, reliability and convenience. Riders should be able to move freely from one transit system to another. Connections between systems are as important as the routes within each system.
In York Region, Viva will provide the "missing link" to connect local neighbourhood buses, railways, express bus services and airports into one easy-to-use family of transit services. When Viva operations begin in the fall of 2005, services will be fully integrated with YRT into one system.
Ongoing planning sessions are now being held with GO Transit, TTC and other transit service providers that operate in York Region and the GTA. Proposed strategies include integrated fares, convenient transfer stations and terminals, and a centralized telephone number and web site to provide passenger information.
