how you protect header

You can help play an important role in protecting municipal groundwater supplies.

As a homeowner, there are many simple things you can do:

  • Maintain your septic system
  • Dispose of hazardous waste appropriately
  • Minimize use of pesticides, fertilizers and de-icing salt
  • Store fuels (e.g. home heating oil, gasoline) properly

If you are a business owner, you can also do things to reduce the threat you may pose to sources of drinking water. As a business owner you can complete a Risk Assessment and Risk Management Plan. For information on how to do this and when you may be required to complete one, please refer to the following guide:

Ontario's Clean Water Act (CWA) established a commitment to keep our drinking water safe. As a result, the Ministry of the Environment launched the Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program (ODWSP); a financial assistance program to help landowners take action to reduce threats to local municipal drinking water.
