Sewer Use Bylaw
The Regional Municipality of York maintains a Sewer Use Bylaw to prevent adverse effects from discharges to Regional sewage works and to maintain and protect the integrity of the sewage infrastructure. Sewer Use Bylaw No. S-0064-2005-009 was replaced by Sewer Use Bylaw No. 2011-56 on November 17, 2011.
Sewer Use Bylaw No. 2011-56 builds upon the regulatory framework of the previous bylaw and reflects updated practices in sewer regulation, adopts new requirements, clarifies language, modifies administrative processes and enhances enforcement tools to better regulate discharges to Regional sewage infrastructure.
Regional Bylaw Enforcement Officers regularly sample industries to confirm compliance with the bylaw. Penalties under the bylaw range from a maximum of $25,000 to $100,000, upon conviction.
