It’s the Law
According to Statistics Canada, completing your census is mandatory and there are penalties for those who don’t.
Statistics Canada initially asked everyone across Canada to “Count yourself in!” Immediately following the Census Day on May 16th, it adjusted the key message to remind stragglers that “It’s not too late.”
Now, “It’s the law” is the new message.
If you haven’t sent your census form in or completed it online at
www.census2006.ca, you can still do so. If you have questions, please call the census line at 1-877-594-2006. They will take your census over the phone.
Know someone who needs temporary employment?
Statistics Canada needs more enumerators immediately
Statistics Canada needs more enumerators to follow up with households that have not yet returned their census forms as of Census day on May 16, 2006.
There are many openings in York Region, especially in the Vaughan and Woodbridge area. If you know anyone who might be interested in a short-term, part-time position with flexible hours, and have the necessary skills as listed below, please ask them to apply via the Statistics Canada website at
www.census2006.ca
This is not an office job: extensive outdoor work in a variety of neighbourhoods and communities is required. The job also includes frequent interaction with the public. Candidates must demonstrate:
• experience in dealing with the public, ideally in enumerating or canvassing
• ability to complete field duties as required, follow written instructions, and read maps
Candidates are required to:
• pass a written test (sample tests are available at
www.census2006.ca)
• pass a personal interview, reference checks, reliability assessment verified by the RCMP and a language proficiency test if required
• have full time access to a car and a valid driver's licence
• be 18 years of age or older prior to start of duties
• have use of a private telephone line (not a cellular)
• be available until the end of June, including evenings, weekends and holidays
The rate of pay is piece-rate. Enumerators will earn approximately $1,200 for all activities in their assignment. Statistics Canada welcomes all applicants, but only those demonstrating the required qualifications will be contacted.
