As of 2007 it is estimated that 485,000 people work in the Region's 29,000 businesses.
Employment growth in York Region has been significant over the last 30 years. Current projections estimate that by 2031 there will be 800,000 jobs in the Region.
York has a relatively young population. "Baby boomers" currently make up close to 35% of the population. Over time the Region will experience a gradual aging of its population. By 2026, it is estimated that 21% of York's population will be seniors (65+).

From this information we can plan and develop appropriate policies, and programs that are designed to better serve the Region's existing and future population.
