911 for Kids header graphic
Red E. Fox link to 911 intro page If you're not sure where you are, pick a nearby building, like a school or store and tell the 9-1-1 call taker!

A 9-1-1 call taker will ask you questions to find out what type of help you need - police, fire or ambulance and where you are:
  • What is your location?

  • What is the emergency?

  • What is your telephone number?

  • What is your name?
If you are using a cell phone to call 9-1-1, it is very important to be able to tell the call taker your location - the name of the street, the name of a business or school that you're at or close to, any information that might help the call taker figure out where you are.

Remember, never hang up the phone until the call taker tells you it's OK to hang up.
